Costume and Actors

Within our opening sequence we only really have one main character so we only really need one main costume and that costume consists of a black hooded jumper and dark, old, worn out clothing.

The main character will be acted out by a member of our group but we aren't sure which one of us will be acting it out yet.

The Brother who will only be seen briefly will be wearing general everyday casual clothing compared to the main characters dark clothing. It will show a obvious divide between the two of them.

This character will also be played by a member of our group but once again we aren't quite sure who will be playing this character.

Props

For our opening thriller scene we will need a number of props in order to make our opening scene work and to make it believable. The Props we need are:
  • A Knife
  • Fake Blood
  • Pictures of the brother
  • Mirror
  • Table
  • Chair
We are able to get all of these props between us as they are easy to come by. The only problem we have is taking a knife with us as it is unsafe and doesn't follow health and safety regulations.
This means we may have to reconsider where we are going to locate our opening sequence.

Location

We have got to the point where we have to start thinking about finding a location for our filming.
The requirements we need are:
  • Dark area
  • Place possible to drip blood on floor
  • Quiet and private
  • Somewhere which we can shoot high angle shots from

Some of the locations we have though of are the tower on Uphill hill or the corridor down the art/media section of Weston College.

Problems we have of these locations are that we may be interrupted as these places are public and how we will get our props to these places.

This is a picture of the Uphill tower, which is where we will be filming:

Logo

This is our logo we have used for our blog. I made this logo in Adobe Photoshop CS.
I have chosen the "cracked" font for the "Thriller Opening" and "Weston College Group 8" because it looks like it is a creepy font. I used the Gaussian blur on the blood drops and scratches so it looks like it is out of focus and so it almost looks like it is a dream or a horrible memory.

The knife in motion blur adds the effect of that it is in motion and being used for bad reasons. The dark colours of the font, background and blood makes the logo more creepy, horrible and scary.

Thriller Inspiration

We have been looking at thriller film openings to get inspiration.
The film we have got inspiration from is The Shining.
We chose this film because it is a classic example of a great thriller film.
But the opening of The Shining is very blank and leaves the audience still thinking what the film is about, what's happening and how the opening relates to a thriller.

We have thought about this and have decided to take another approach to our opening sequence.

But we have been inspired by The Shining by the ways it builds tension and mystery in the film. Also the way Stanley Kubrick allows the audience to interpret the mysteries in the film as there are a few unanswered mysteries in the film which lets the audience attempt to solve the mysteries.
